Upcoming Releases: August 2022

Hi everyone! I can’t believe it’s already time for another upcoming releases post. Today I’m going to be sharing some of my most anticipated YA releases of the month with you. Please note that these dates are correct as of the time of writing and refer to UK hardcover publication only, as that’s what I’ll be reading.

Epically Earnest by Molly Horan

Release Date: 4th August

Genre: Romance, contemporary

Initial Thoughts: This sounds like a really great coming of age story! I think it’s amazing that this one has an emphasis on being yourself, which is such an important message to be sending out to readers at this age. It’s really cool that this is inspired by Oscar Wilde’s play, The Importance Of Being Earnest, too – I haven’t read it but I imagine if you have you’d really enjoy this!

What’s Coming to Me by  Francesca Padilla

Release Date: 4th August

Genre: Contemporary

Initial Thoughts: Books with flawed main characters are always so interesting, and I think this one will be no exception! Minerva sounds like such a strong character and I love that this follows her getting revenge on her predatory boss. I can’t wait to delve into this one, it’s really caught my attention!

These Fleeting Shadows by Kate Alice Marshall

Release Date: 9th August

Genre: Horror, fantasy

Initial Thoughts: Honestly, the blurb of this is giving me major The Inheritance Games vibes, which I’m so here for! I don’t read much horror but I love the sound of this, I’m already curious about what secrets Harrowstone Hall hides and scared for Helen! I think I might hold off on reading this until Autumn as it seems like the perfect spooky read.

The Charmed List by Julie Abe

Release Date: 16th August

Genre: Romance, contemporary

Initial Thoughts: This sounds like a really sweet read! I can never say no to a cute contemporary and I know I won’t be able to resist this one either. I love that this has urban fantasy elements to it and the classic bucket list trope! I can’t wait to read about Ellie and Jack’s journey.

The Feeling Of Falling In Love by Mason Deaver

Release Date: 16th August

Genre: Romance, contemporary

Initial Thoughts: I love books with the fake dating trope and it sounds like that may be in this! It also sounds like there’s a lot of potential for some amazing character development, which is always a must for me. With that being said, I did notice the author posted a lot of trigger warnings for this on Goodreads, so please check those out before reading!

That’s Debatable by Jen Doll

Release Date: 23rd August

Genre: Contemporary, romance

Initial Thoughts: Honestly, the synopsis of this one reminds me a lot of Not Here To Be Liked – which I didn’t enjoy that much – so I’m hoping the execution will be good here! It’s really interesting that this one rests on the debate team, and I love that it’s about feminism too. What I love most of all, though, is that it sounds like the characters will actually grow in this, which is so important.

Those Summer Nights by Laura Silverman

Release Date: 23rd August

Genre: Contemporary, romance

Initial Thoughts: This sounds like the perfect summer read! I think it’s really great that this is about an athlete coming to terms with their dreams being crushed due to an injury, unfortunately it does happen and this could help readers going through something similar. I’m usually a little wary of love triangles but I actually love the sound of this one, and Hannah’s summer job sounds like so much fun!

Lightlark by Alex Aster

Release Date: 23rd August

Genre: Fantasy, romance

Initial Thoughts: Ok but the Centennial game sounds so fascinating and I already want to know who comes out on top! I will admit that the idea of different rulers competing has been done before but I love the take on this, with them competing to break the curses on their realms.

Belladonna by Adalyn Grace

Release Date: 30th August

Genre: Fantasy, romance

Initial Thoughts: I’ve heard so many amazing things about this one already! I love the gothic elements of this and the atmosphere sounds super spooky. Signa’s alliance with Death sounds so eerie and I’m already intrigued. One thing’s for sure: I’ll definitely be picking this one up!

How to Survive Your Murder by Danielle Valentine

Release Date: 30th August

Genre: Mystery, horror

Initial Thoughts: I love a good mystery, so of course I had to include this! This one sounds really different to anything else I’ve read in the genre before which has really drew me in. Going back a year to save your sister from being murdered (in twenty four hours, no less) is such a cool concept and I can’t wait to dive into this!

Which book are you most excited for? Are there on your radar I haven’t included? Let me know in the comments!

I hope you enjoyed this post!

  1. I’ll have to look more into all of these but right now the ones that are catching my eyes are Lightlark by Alex Aster, How to Survive Your Murder by Danielle Valentine, and These Fleeting Shadows by Kate Alice Marshall. I love horror, murder/mysteries, and fantasy. 😀 I’ve already added them to my wish list. 🙂

    1. I hope you enjoy all of them if you end up reading them! I love all of those genres too, although mysteries would have to be my favourite. Thank you so much for reading and commenting 🙂

  2. Thanks for sharing such a great list! I really like the sound of ‘What’s Coming to Me’ by Francesca Padilla as I like the sound of her getting revenge on her sleazy boss. Lightlark by Alex Aster also has me interested as it sounds like the hunger games, but if the people at the top fought each other. How to Survive Your Murder by Danielle Valentine though sounds right up my street! 😀

    1. I’m so glad you like the sound of all of these! I love the sound of her standing up to her boss in What’s Coming To Me too, it sounds really powerful – and I’ll admit the first thing I thought of when I saw Lightlark was The Hunger Games! I really hope you enjoy all of these, thank you so much for reading and commenting 🙂

  5. A lot of these sound really good! I’m a huge fan of spooky/horror/mysteries, so those would be my top picks. And The Importance of Being Earnest is great! The movie was pretty good too. It’s a fun story.
