The TBR Book Tag

Hi everyone! Today I’m back with another tag post in preparation for the summer and the end of my exams, which will all be over by the time I publish my next post! I don’t know about you guys but I always find that I do the most reading in the summer, it’s when I have the most time and it means that I can really focus on my reading.

Of course, all of that extra reading means choosing my books from the ever growing TBR – and so I thought it was the perfect time to tackle my TBR and take part in The TBR Book Tag! I found this tag on Holley’s blog way back in September and saved it to come back to later, although it was originally created by Rachel back in 2014. Now let’s get onto the post!

How do you keep track of your TBR pile?

It’s a mix of Goodreads, Storygraph, and my brain! I tend to use Goodreads for adding books I want to buy and then on Storygraph I have a shelf of all my owned books, which has a separate section for books I haven’t read yet. I also have a couple of books in the back of my brain all the time when I don’t have the chance to update my lists!

Is your TBR mostly print or e-book?

Print, 100%! I don’t actually have any e-books on my TBR, I pretty much always only read them when I’m sent one to review as I prefer print so much. There’s just something about physically holding a book in your hands!

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?

Honestly, I’m quite a mood reader, so I tend to just go with the flow and pick whatever I’m in the mood in! That being said, though, if there are any new releases I’m really anticipating those will usually go to the top, and of course if I have review requests to get through I always try and prioritise those where I can.

A book that’s been on your TBR the longest?

I honestly couldn’t tell you! It feels like the Caraval series has been on my TBR for a very long time though – I bought the whole series at the beginning of 2021 and was eying it up for a few months before that, but somehow I still haven’t gotten around to this trilogy. I’ll have to pick it up this summer!

A book that you recently added to your TBR?

That would be The Black Girls Left Standing by Juliana Goodman, which actually releases this month! This sounds like such an important read, I love that it covers the issue of ignored black women’s death as well as one protagonist’s journey for justice.

A book on your TBR strictly because of its beautiful cover?

I wouldn’t actually say that there are any books on my TBR just because of their covers… I try not to judge a book on the cover too much. However, the original reason I was drawn to The Once And Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow was definitely the cover – although once I picked it up and read the blurb I was completely hooked!

A book on your TBR that you NEVER plan on actually reading?

I really don’t think there are any! I know that the chances are I’ll never actually get through my whole TBR backlist, but I genuinely intend to read every book I buy and I’m planning on reading them all if and when I get the chance.

An unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited for?

I’m going to go for both The Final Gambit by Jennifer Lynn Jackson and Nothing More To Tell by Karen McManus! I love a good mystery and both of these release on the 1st September, which I’m super excited for. The Final Gambit is the finale to The Inheritance Games trilogy whilst Nothing More To Tell is set to be another excellent McManus standalone!

A book on your TBR that basically everyone has read except you?

At this point I feel like I’m pretty much the only person who hasn’t read anything by Colleen Hoover… But that’s going to change soon! I bought It Ends With Us back in April and I can’t wait to finally read it and see what all the hype is about.

A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you?

Six Of Crows by Leigh Bardugo! I’ve seen so many glowing reviews for it and so many bloggers have recommended it to me – and my sister, of course! I read the Shadow And Bone trilogy (which is set in the same world) a few months ago and really enjoyed it, so I’m really excited to finally read the main duology.

A book on your TBR that you’re just dying to read?

Too many! I’m super excited to finally read These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong, though – I love Romeo and Juliet so much and the fantasy spin on the story is something that I’ve been really intrigued by for what feels like forever. I can’t wait to finally see what all the hype is about!

The number of books on your Goodreads TBR shelf?

That would be 22, as of the time of writing – which is not a lot! I actually cleared through it all recently and I only use it to track books I don’t own, which is why, haha.

Do you have an uncontrollable TBR too? What’s at the top of it? Let me know in the comments!

I hope you enjoyed this post!

  1. Nice post. I haven’t read any of Colleen Hover’s yet. Maybe soon.
And the beautiful book cover is a big yes to me. I’m more likely to pick books with good cover or search for ebook files with better designs since I don’t read printed. But I’m trying not to judge them by their covers too much now. 😅

    1. I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s not on the Colleen Hoover train yet, haha! And I’m with you for covers (even though I do read them printed) – it’s so hard not to judge them by a pretty cover! I often find that’s what makes me pick up a book in the first place. Thank you so much for reading and commenting!

  4. I know exactly what you mean about a physical book vs. an ebook – paper wins hands down for me always. I adored The Once and Future Witches too, and now I’m intrigued about These Violent Delights – hope it lives up to your expectations, Ceri! x
