Christmas 2021 Book Haul

Hi everyone! I can’t believe Christmas is already over; I hope everyone had a great time. I was lucky enough to receive lots of great new reads for Christmas and so I thought I would share them with you. I hope you find some interesting reads to add to your tbr!

To Kill A Kingdom by Alexandra Christo

Genre: Fantasy, romance

Goodreads: To Kill A Kingdom

Initial Thoughts: I really want to get into reading a bit more fantasy in 2022 and this seems like the perfect place to start! I love that this is a Little Mermaid retelling, but what I love even more is that this is an enemies to lovers! I definitely think this will be one of my first reads of the year and I can’t wait for it.

You’ve Reached Sam by Dustin Thao

Genre: Romance, contemporary, fantasy

Goodreads: You’ve Reached Sam

Initial Thoughts: I’ve been waiting to read this since it came out in November so I’m so thankful I finally got my hands on it! I fully expect my heart to be broken by this book but I’ve pretty much accepted that by now and I can’t wait to get into it… It sounds like a really beautiful read!

The Ivies by Alexa Donne

Genre: Mystery, thriller

Goodreads: The Ivies

Initial Thoughts: If you’re a regular reader of my blog you’ll know how much I love a good mystery, and I have high hopes for this one! I love that it’s set in such a hypercompetitive environment with super high stakes – I think it’ll be perfect for raising the tension!

Hunted by Meagan Spooner

Genre: Fantasy, romance

Goodreads: Hunted

Initial Thoughts: Beauty And The Beast is my favourite Disney film but for some reason I had never read a retelling, so I knew I had to ask for this! The idea of Belle trying to hunt the Beast is a really interesting concept and I can’t wait to get into this.

The Last Girl by Goldy Moldavsky

Genre: Horror, thriller, mystery

Goodreads: The Last Girl

Initial Thoughts: This honestly sounds like it’s going to be absolutely terrifying and I’m so here for it! I don’t think I’ve ever read a book that’s actually scared me but I have a feeling this might be the one, so I’m super stoked for it.

Better Than The Movies by Lynn Painter

Genre: Romance, contemporary

Goodreads: Better Than The Movies

Initial Thoughts: I’ve been wanting to read this one for so long so I’m so grateful I have a copy now! It sounds like such a cute read and perfect for balancing out some of the darker books on this list. I can’t wait to have some fun reading this!

The Murder Game by Carrie Doyle

Genre: Mystery, thriller

Goodreads: The Murder Game

Initial Thoughts: This is such an interesting concept and I already love it! The idea of the protagonist trying to clear his best friend’s name isn’t exactly a new one but it sounds like Doyle has a really fresh take on it, which I really appreciate.

The Storm Crow by Kalyn Josephson

Genre: Fantasy, romance

Goodreads: The Storm Crow

Initial Thoughts: I know you shouldn’t judge a book on its’ cover but this is genuinely beautiful! I love books about rebellion so this should be right up my street, and I also love all the different representation this book has (particularly with mental health). I definitely think this’ll be a great read!

A Blade So Black by L.L. McKinney

Genre: Fantasy, adventure

Goodreads: A Blade So Black

Initial Thoughts: After reading Heartless by Marissa Meyer I was desperate to get my hands on more Alice In Wonderland retellings, so I’m really happy with this! This sounds like it could be a really modern retelling with lots of relatable issues too so I’m super excited for when I get to reading this.

The Kinder Poison by Natalie Mae

Genre: Fantasy, romance

Goodreads: The Kinder Poison

Initial Thoughts: The concept for this is such an original one! I love the idea of a young girl getting caught up in something bigger than she could’ve imagined and turning into a human sacrifice… I honestly think this will be different to anything else I’ve read!

Red Wolf by Rachel Vincent

Genre: Fantasy, romance

Goodreads: Red Wolf

Initial Thoughts: I don’t think I’ve ever read a Little Red Riding Hood retelling, but this one sounds brilliant! I love the guardian and shapeshifter aspect and I definitely think this will be a really interesting read… I can’t wait to get to it!

The Cat Who Saved Books by Sosuke Natsukawa

Genre: Fantasy

Goodreads: The Cat Who Saved Books

Initial Thoughts: Anyone who knows me will tell you how much I love cats (and, of course, reading) so this is the perfect book for me! I really love the idea of this (I mean, who wouldn’t want a talking cat?!) and I can’t wait to delve into it!

The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake

Genre: Fantasy

Goodreads: The Atlas Six

Initial Thoughts: I’m getting really strong dark academia vibes from this, and I’m so here for it! I love the competition behind this and that, combined with the magic, has me sold. I’m definitely really excited for this one!

So… There you have it! The thirteen amazing books I received for Christmas! I can’t wait to read all of these and more in 2022, I’m really hoping it will be a great reading year for everyone.

Have you read any of these? Did you get any books for Christmas?

I hope you enjoyed this haul!
