Upcoming Releases: September 2021

Hi everyone! Today I’m going to sharing some of my most anticipated releases for this month. Please note that these dates are correct as of the time of publication, but are the UK release dates only. I hope you can find some great new reads to add to your TBR – I know I did while researching!

Dragon By Midnight by Karen Kincy

Release Date: 1st September

Genre: Fantasy, retellings, romance

Initial Thoughts: A dark Cinderella retelling? Sign me up! The idea of Cinderella turning into a dragon is such an interesting and original concept and I definitely have a lot of questions about this story and all of the different directions it could go down. I don’t actually read much fantasy but this one still found it’s way onto my tbr, so I think that says a lot about this book’s potential!

The Buried by Melissa Grey

Release Date: 7th September

Genre: Horror, thriller

Initial Thoughts: Ok, this sounds like such a suspenseful read with tension to spare! Being trapped inside for ten years sounds like such a horrifying experience and this premise has really got me hooked. If that wasn’t enough, the spooky cover must be – just look at how ominous it all looks!

So Many Beginnings by Bethany C. Morrow

Release Date: 7th September

Genre: Historical fiction, retellings

Initial Thoughts: I read Little Women years ago and the fact that there’s a modern retelling coming out this month is honestly so exciting! Morrow’s decision to have the sisters be black during the Civil War has really intrigued me and I feel like we’re going to get a lot about how this would’ve affected them – with the family love, of course!

The Bones Of Ruin by Sarah Raughley

Release Date: 7th September

Genre: Fantasy, historical fiction

Initial Thoughts: Is no one going to talk about how great of a combination fantasy and historical fiction is? The Bones Of Ruin sounds like such a promising book, and, I have to admit, parts of the premise reminded me of The Hunger Games. The tournament sounds deadly and I am so excited to see whether or not this lives up to my expectations!

Not Here To Be Liked by Michelle Quach

Release Date: 14th September

Genre: Contemporary, romance

Initial Thoughts: It’s no secret that I love a great contemporary, and from the blurb this one sounds like it could fast become one of my favourites! This sounds like such a strong feminist book, and it also sounds like it might have it’s fair share of funny moments! I’m honestly so pumped for this book, and I’ve already preordered it, so I think that says a lot!

White Smoke by Tiffany D. Jackson

Release Date: 14th September

Genre: Horror, mystery

Initial Thoughts: This book sounds like the ridiculously creepy ghost story I didn’t know I needed, and I am so here for it! I don’t really read many horrors, but this one sounds brimmed with secrets and just generally something I would really enjoy. I can’t wait to see where Jackson goes with this book!

Endgame by Malorie Blackman

Release Date: 16th September

Genre: Dystopian, contemporary

Initial Thoughts: I still don’t think I’m ready for the conclusion of the Noughts and Crosses series – when I first read the series it was such an eye opener for me! I’m so excited to see what happens after the massive cliffhanger from Crossfire, and the blurb has only fueled my anticipation. I can’t believe this series is finally coming to a close!

All These Bodies by Kendare Blake

Release Date: 21st September

Genre: Mystery, horror

Initial Thoughts: I am already so invested in this story, and I haven’t even started reading it yet! Sixteen bloodless bodies, with one teenage girl in the middle of it? If that doesn’t persuade you to bump this to the top of your tbr, I don’t know what will! This sounds like the perfect eerie September read and I am so here for it.

To Break A Covenant by Alison Ames

Release Date: 21st September

Genre: Horror, thriller

Initial Thoughts: Another creepy book? I think it’s safe to say that my September TBR is spiraling out of control! This book sounds like it’s got something for everything – ghosts, friendships, possibly even a little bit of romance – which is always a promising sign. I’m so stoked to read this horror!

Lakesedge by Lyndall Clipstone

Release Date: 28th September

Genre: Gothic, romance, horror

Initial Thoughts: A dark monster who murdered his own family? Consider me intrigued! This sounds like such a beautifully dark story and I honestly can’t wait! One reviewer on Goodreads said it was full of “monster boys who gift you pretty dresses, old secret gardens and bramble thorns, death gods who whisper your name in the dark, honey scented altar candles
and almost-kisses at midnight” and now I can’t stop thinking about it!

For All Time by Shanna Miles

Release Date: 28th September

Genre: Fantasy, romance

Initial Thoughts: This one’s been on my radar for while now, so I think it’s no surprise that it ended up on this list. The idea of two lovers being trapped in an ongoing cycle, watching their story play out over and over again, sounds so heartbreaking and I already feel so sorry for the characters! I’m really hoping they get a happy ending after all of these other dark books, haha.

Beasts Of Prey by Ayana Gray

Release Date: 28th September

Genre: Fantasy

Initial Thoughts: This is another fantasy that completely pulled me in! I feel like the idea of the dangerous monster combined with the two characters with hidden motives working together is something done a lot in YA, but for good reason. I for one am so excited to see the path Gray goes down with this!

Once Upon A Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber

Release Date: 30th September

Genre: Fantasy, romance

Initial thoughts: Ok, so I still haven’t read Caraval yet but I can already tell I’m going to love it and I think it’s safe to say the same goes with Once Upon A Broken Heart, which just so happens to be set in the same world. One reviewer on Goodreads described it as “a book about bad decisions, unrequited loves and broken hearts”, and, if that’s not enough to draw you in, I don’t know what is!

Which book are you most excited about? Are there any on your TBR which I haven’t included? Let me know in the comments!

I hope you enjoyed this post!
